My friend with the offensively named blog posted this from the Atlantic on Google Reader.
There's a hole in the logic though. Palin may be spinning this story, but Clinton flat out lied. Like, she actually made up an entire story from scratch. At least there's some truth to the Palin claim, even if some of the context is held back. A truer analogy would be if there had never been a Bridge to Nowhere and SP concocted one from thin air only to bolster her claim that she made it vanish. Very big difference.

"but she did it, too!"
ReplyDeletethat didn't cut it in 2nd grade and won't here in the real world. palin's entire stump speech is riddled with similar examples of inaccuracy and flat-out distortions, if not lies.
the same cavalier attitude with the truth is becoming more and more evident throughout the larger mccain campaign, via their ads, surrogates and official statements.
but i do agree with you bigtime on clinton. her campaign lies and distortions are what pushed my support away from her and to obama.
but now i get to see even more lies and distortions via the mccain's campaign. country first, indeed.
and what's so offensive about my blog name? you used to think it was pretty funny.
ReplyDeletemuch like sarah palin, i guess you also said "no thanks" to that blog from brooklyn. ;)
i brought up clinton because the author made the comparrison (i.e. will the media treat palin like they did clinton?). i wasn't even defending palin so much as i was exposing his weak analogy.
ReplyDeletethe blog name is great ... for me to poop on.
The difference between Palin and Clinton is not that Palin is 'spinning' but Clinton lied. In both cases the candidates made demonstrably false statements. Palin's lie is that she has always opposed the Bridge to Nowhere.
ReplyDeleteTo me, the difference is about the public's pre-conceptions (if any) about a candidate. The Bosnia story 'stuck' with Clinton because the public (myself included)was already inclined to believe that Clinton (and her hubbie) can be a bit loose with the truth.
Palin, however, is still a blank canvas, and the race is on for one side or the other to paint a picture about her. So whether her lies about the Bridge will be effective or not depends ultimately on how she will be defined.
